Is There Crossplay Available?
Crossplay Between Steam & Epic Games
It has been announced that cross platform play will be available between Steam & Epic Games Launcher. Players will now be able to enjoy Borderlands 3 no matter which launcher you play it in! However, no other mention of crossplay between consoles and PC has been mentioned yet.
Not Available at Launch
At launch, Borderlands 3 will not be supporting Cross Play multiplayer. Multiplayer will only be available in split screen or online sessions within the same platforms.
Cross Play will be Added
Randy Pitchford, Gearbox CEO has stated in a tweet that Cross Play will be coming to Borderlands 3 as soon as they can implement it after the launch. No date yet on when this will be added.

Players can play together with their friends locally through split screen. Up to 2 players can play at a time when using the split screen function.
Same Platform Multiplayer
Players can match up with friends & play online together through online sessions. Alternatively, you can also match up with random players in online sessions!

The long-awaited cross-play and cross-progression features are currently implemented in select games and we will work hard to make these features available in our games moving forward. This article will help you understand what these feature are and what is required to activate them.
These features apply to Ubisoft accounts, PlayStation accounts, Xbox accounts, Nintendo Switch accounts, and Stadia accounts.

What is cross-play?
Cross-play is the ability for users from different platforms and devices to play together regardless of what platform they are on as long as the game they wish to play supports cross-play features. If you are playing a cross-play supported game on PlayStation, you’ll now be able to connect online and play with your friends who play the same game on Xbox, PC, or any other supported platform the game is available on.
What is cross-progression?
Cross-progression allows any player-related progress to be shared between multiple platforms. Your save data is tied to your Ubisoft account instead of being tied to the account associated with the platform you’re using. If you start playing on PlayStation, you can hop over to Xbox and continue playing where you left off if you have the game on both platforms.
What are the requirements to participate in cross-play or cross-progression?
To use cross-play and cross-progression features, it’s necessary to have a Ubisoft account. If you do not have a Ubisoft account, you can create one. If you require further assistance completing this step, please reference our account creation guide.
If you play on console or any Cloud platform, it is also necessary that you link your Ubisoft account to the console/platform account that you’re using.
What should I know about linking a new account?
You will be notified upon linking an account that the initial account you choose will be the account that must remain associated with your Ubisoft account and once linked, will be known as your reference account. It cannot be exchanged for another account hosted on that same first-party platform; this bond will now be permanent.
If this reference is ever unlinked from your Ubisoft account, it will impact some purchases and your ability to successfully use cross-play or cross-progression features on your Ubisoft account. Please keep this in mind when establishing the initial account links on your profile. Relinking a previously unlinked account will allow you to retrieve the previously linked data.
Explanation of the reference account
The reference account is the console account (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Switch, Stadia) that is linked to your Ubisoft account. Once your console account has been linked to your Ubisoft account, only that console account can be re-linked. No other console account can be later associated with the original Ubisoft account.
The reference account was introduced to guarantee a safe cross-play and cross-progression experience. When linking or unlinking an account, a warning message may appear to indicate what your reference account is.

What about the accounts I already have linked?
To view the external accounts linked to your Ubisoft account:
- Navigate to the account management website, and login to your Ubisoft account.
- Click on the Account Information tile.
- Navigate to the Link accounts section.
