In New Leaf[edit]

Fortune Cookies are purchased from Timmy and Tommy's store for two play coins, which are the currency of the Nintendo 3DS earned by gaining 100 steps with the system's internal pedometer. While Timmy and Tommy's store is in the first addition, Nookling Junction, there is one Fortune Cookie for sale but after expanding to T&T Mart there will be two Fortune Cookies for sale. Two Fortune Cookies is the maximum that the store can hold. When events are close by, different items (e.g. roman candles) may be sold instead of the fortune cookie(s).

When the cookie is eaten, the player receives a small fortune from the inside of the cookie. Once the cookie is eaten, the player pulls the fortune out of their mouth. The fortune is read and replaces the cookie. Players can trade in said fortune to Timmy or Tommy for an item. The items that the fortunes are traded in for are items found in other Nintendo games. If the player gives Timmy or Tommy a fortune that is either #4, #6, #16, #30 or #38, Timmy or Tommy will tell the player that the player is not a winner and will give a random furniture, wallpaper or carpet as a consolation prize instead.

In Pocket Camp[edit]

Fortune Cookies can be purchased from the Fortune Cookie Shop in the Market Place. Two Fortune Cookies are available each day for Bells, and the type made available is random. Once eaten, Fortune Cookies will give the player a random item based on the type of cookie. Regular Cookies are indefinitely available, though they can only be purchased when they are chosen as a daily Cookie for Bells. Event Cookies are available for limited amounts time, and can be purchased in unlimited amounts with Leaf Tickets while they are available.

Animal Crossing Pocket Camp Cookies

Depending on their type, Fortune Cookies can be purchased with either Bells or Leaf Tickets. Normal Cookies cost 500 Bells each, while Event Cookies are 50 Leaf Tickets each. However, Event Cookies sometimes can appear for 5,000 Bells each as either or both of the two daily Bells Fortune Cookies. When purchasing with Leaf Tickets, the player can buy one or five Event Cookies at once.

Purchasing Event Cookies with Leaf Tickets earns the player a stamp on their Stamp Card, which takes ten stamps to fill. These cards can be traded directly for specific items from the Event Cookies currently available. Purchasing a box of five Event Cookies for 250 Leaf Tickets earns the player six stamps, one of which is a bonus. Event Cookies purchased with Bells do not earn any stamps.

Fortune Cookies are sometimes earned as rewards from Events, typically soon after a new Event Cookie has become available. They can also be earned through Gifts received from friends, and are guaranteed to be earned from a Gift+, which sometimes offers a random Cookie, or sometimes specifies the type of Cookie that will be inside.

Eating Event Cookies gives the player a chance to unlock a new Memory, if the set contains a Memory unlocking item. This item is always the rarest reward in the set. Members of Pocket Camp Club with the benefits of the Furniture & Fashion Plan are able to choose 5 Fortune Cookies every month, from a selection that includes current Event Cookies as well as many of the past Event Cookies that are no longer available for purchase from the Fortune Cookie Shop.
